History: Born into a rich military history Chernobyl only knew her mother when growing up and even then not very well. Golden helm's position as the Head of the '30' Pounders, the best of the pounders kept her away from home for long stretches of time. Her father's identity was classified at the highest levels, Golden Helm only knew of his cover ID and Chernobyl was cleared for that.
Cherobyl followed in her mothers hoofsteps and elisted in the REA but chose a reserve commission instead a full time employment. After officer training she was assigned to the 8th Combat Engineers. Her special talent fit in perfectly with the unit’s motto, “On call for when you need something put up, taken down or blown away.” This would later come back to haunt her.
Just three years after she had been accepted Chernobyl was drummed out of the core for excessive drinking and disorderly conduct. Copious amounts of vodka were the only thing that helped her get away from that day.
It was during the Draconic boarder incursions. The 8th combat engineers had been called to demolish a large fort that was being used as a forward staging area by the Council of Draco. She had done perfectly; the bombardment had been directed to exactly the right positions and the entire fort collapsed in on itself like a house of cards, no one, not even Celestia could have survived a million tons of rock falling on them. And no one had, casualty rates of those within the fort were 100 percent.
It wouldn’t be for another five months that the truth was found. Only after the Council had surrendered the fort was to be cleared- a trust building enterprise. The 8th were called in to clean up the mess they had made. By some quirk of fate or design the dungeons had been damaged the least. The demolition of the fort would have been almost survivable…
almost. The bodies of thirty five ponies were discovered in the rubble along with the remains of several others. Council records indicated that one hundred and three Equestrian POWs in the dungeons at the time of demolition, among them were the '30' Pounders and their commanding officer MAJ Golden Helm.
Chernobyl was kicked out of the force a short while later for drunk and disorderly conduct. Vodka helped dull the pain and Chernobyl never forgot the blood on her hooves, never allowed herself to forget. She had the kill markings tattooed into her skin and fur, ten short stripes and a three part circle, she would carry the memory of her greatest success and worst failure with her to the grave and beyond.
In order to maintain a steady supply of vodka she signed up as an escort for a pair of archaeologists searching the Everfrees for the remains of ancient civilizations. Her talent allowed her to guide them around traps and find entrances while her training kept them alive in the wild-lands. Five years ago they stepped through an arch and stars changed above them.
